The athlete recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the global championships last month, dominated an impressive victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The environment at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the winners with their crowns.

Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also drew several top athletes, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
