New England Match Best Winning Streak Since Brady Years with Triumph Over Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five scores this season
New England tied their best victory streak since the Brady period as they beat AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three scores as the New England squad secured an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's last year with the team in 2019
Quarterback Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a TD, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
Victory bolsters the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after falling to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had scored first at Foxborough with QB Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' first possession
But the Patriots fought back in the second period as Henderson scored two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third period to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on Henderson. "He desires to be outstanding."
Fields threw to Metchie late in the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the victory
