The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Arrives, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. It was showcased in a special Nintendo Direct that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.
The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will propel Mario to the far corners of the universe. In his journey, he meets a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Beloved Titles
Similar to the Wii-era games that act as its source material, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who seemingly wields metal-based powers. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also features references to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The movie will welcome back of the initial voice actors, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
Mario's Major Moment
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release near the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo has three new games publicly declared for that year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Release Date Confirmed
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
